Have you noticed that every time you boil farfalle pasta, it always spills? That seems annoyingly interesting to me, so I asked myself why. Maybe the pasta simply wants to get out? I made a short animation illustrating this concern of mine.
I used several different animation techniques in this shot: 3D for the fire, 2D vector animation for the pot, pasta, and hand; and cel animation for the spilled foam. It made me realize that combining all these mediums into one gives a motion designer artistic freedom to experiment and create the best animation piece.
